Zuccala homes display homes built in Flash

Interactive Display Homes for Zuccala Homes

We have built a flash interactive Display Homes viewer for Zuccala homes that allows a user to view all the Display Centres. The flash viewer shows all the Display Centres with maps and allows a visitor to quickly know where the display centre is.

Houses on Display

Zuccala Homes Mernda North Display Centre

The individual houses on display are connected through the Display centre. The display centre lists which houses are on display. The visitor can click on the individual home on the display centre and view the home details.

Google Maps Integration with Display Homes

Integration with Display Homes and Google Maps

To make it easy for the visitor to find the home and eventually go to the display home centre, the system is connected to a Google Map that shows all the locations. From here a user can view all the houses in google maps, get directions etc.

Keyword Cannibalisation – quick tips

September 27th, 2010 1 comment

What is Keyword Cannibalisation

Keyword Cannibalisation is a process where your pages don’t get indexed properly by Google because they are similar in content or keywords. So in essence they are fighting with each other to gain rankings on Google and at the end not getting anywhere because Google cannot prioritise and distinguish those pages.

So having more pages with similar content is not necessarily a good thing to lift your ranking. It might be working against you.

Obviously Search Engines don’t want users to build copies of popular content to get higher rankings on websites. Remember Search Engines want the user to have a good experience on the site. Most of the things that Search Engines do is based on the user and not on the website.

Search Engines want to see a good distributed content across the website so that when a visitor jumps from one page to the other, they get good information from the second page.

What causes Keyword Cannibalisation

  • Multiple pages with same titles
  • Multiple pages with similar heading tags
  • Multiple pages with similar content
  • Multiple internal links going to different pages, so if you have a link saying services which goes to 5 different pages, it is suss :)
  • Multiple similar external links going to different pages

Solution to Keyword Cannibalisation

  • Create different titles for each page and make them separate
  • Use different keywords in headings of your pages
  • Don’t create multiple similar copies of the same page. This is pointless form SEO, user experience and conversion perspectives. After a few pages on the same topic, just go back and improve them instead of adding new ones.
  • Don’t have similar links going to different pages of the website. So in one page if it says click here to view services, make the other one click here to view our ABC Services etc

Social Media Optimisation – Facebook Optimisation

September 11th, 2010 No comments

Is it time to start Social Media Optimisation?

With the onslaught of Social Media tools and we sharing more than sharing, is it time to start Social Media Optimisation? Facebook was the number 1 site in US in March and in August, Americans spent more time in Facebook than in Google. If this continues, chances are that your brand will be researched by more and more Facebook users every day. Is your brand ready for this?

Facebook Powered Search Box

Do you have a Facebook fan page?

Facebook is not what it was a couple of years ago. It is not where teenagers go and chat to their friends now. Google indexes Facebook Fan pages. Companies have millions of fans on their fan pages. When a Facebook user searches for a product/service that you sell, does your Fan page come up in the list?

Custom Facebook Fan Page

Does content on your website have a Facebook like or share button?

Facebook is testing search where when you search for content, content that is being liked the most by Facebook users comes on the top of search results. You need to make sure that your content has a share and like button on your website.

5 minute shopping Cart

Thinking of starting an eCommerce store / shopping cart?

August 8th, 2010 No comments

Thinking of starting an eCommerce Store or a shopping cart. Here are the things you need to consider before setting one up.

1. Stock Inventory

How are you going to manage your inventory. If you put up a product online, you will need to make sure that you have the product in stock. Also if you sell the product from its physical location, you need to make sure that you update the product inventory on your website.

2. Postage, Handling and Delivery

How are you going to deliver your product.

  • Are you going to check every order, put them in envelopes and send it through the post
  • Are you going to hire a courier who can run around and get your products delivered quickly
  • Does your product meet the requirements to go through post/courier
  • Is it a fragile item?
  • How much are you going to charge for Postage and Handling?
  • Are you going to offer international postage?
  • Do the dimensions of the product make it an issue for Postage?

3. Photographs of products

  • How are you going to get photographs of the products.
  • Do the photographs of the products adequately display the product
  • Do the photographs answer all the questions your potential customer has from the look of the product
  • Are the photographs so well done that the actual product looks inferior compared to the photograph?

4. Sale and Promotions

  • Are you going to run sales and promotions
  • Does your eCommerce platform allow you to mark products down
  • How will you communicate sales and promotions to your customers

5. Marketing your Online Store

  • How will you market your store?
  • How will you initially get customers to the online store?
  • Have you got a list of email addresses of customers that you can communicate to?
  • Have you got an social media strategy?
  • How will your existing customers know that they can buy products online?

More to come on this later….

Accessing Google Analytics and Piwik through Adobe Air applications

July 22nd, 2010 No comments

Everything is great about analytics but over time analytics loses its value because of these two problems

  • It is hard to access
  • You do not know what actions to take based on the reports
  •

    Making Analytics easy to access

We’ll look at how we can solve the first issue on this post, being hard to access.

Google Analytics has a great way of setting up alerts and scheduling of sending reports that makes it easy for you to access data. The problem with things being sent to you is that you are not motivated to view them. For me, my analytics reports land on my inbox once every 2 weeks and I barely look at them. What I really do to view what my visitors are doing is use custom applications that read analytics data and I can access information that is important for me through these. Here are a bunch of applications on iphone and Adobe Air that you can use to keep track of your analytics.

For this post we’ll mainly focus on free applications:

Google Analytics – Adobe Air applications

Are you Tracking Outbound links? Google Analytics link tracking

June 18th, 2010 No comments

Google Analytics Outbound Link tracking

If you are using Google Analytics and not tracking your outbound links, you might be not getting enough intelligence on your website. Here are some of the things that outbound link tracking can tell you

How many times someone has clicked on your email link (in contact us) compared to how many emails you have received.

If you have a high number of clicks, but a low number of enquiries, it might make sense to create a contact us form and use that instead.

How many times are your PDFs getting downloaded

Have you got documents in your website. If any of your PDFs have a very high demand, it might make sense to ask the user for their email address before they can download the PDF. This way you are capturing more data about your visitors

Are you sending a lot of traffic to your affiliates

You can essentially track if you are sending a lot of traffic to your affiliates and if you are, and if they are turning into sales or enquiries, you should charge commission on that traffic.

Outbound links tracking

Even your general outbound links (such as maps, review sites ) etc, you can track them to see if any of your investments are turning into action for you.
